Tanning Tips For Fair Skin
The Do's and Don'ts for Tanning with Fair SkinTips for Tanning with Pale Skin: What You Should and Shouldn't Do
Just because you have fair skin, does not mean that you cannot achieve a sun-kissed glow. However, it does mean that you are not able to achieve a tan the same way that darker skin types would. Here is a list of the top five dos and don’ts when it comes to tanning with fair skin.
DON'T burn. Not only does this increase your risk of Melanoma, but it is painful as well. It damages your skin and dries it out, creating the need to let your skin heal while it is flaking and peeling. This pretty much puts you back at square one when it comes to establishing a tan.
DO use SPF when tanning outside, preferably something with an SPF of at least 20 or 30. The protection will prevent burning, while still allowing you to receive some color.
DON'T tan too long right away. Let your skin work up to longer times. Otherwise, you may find yourself in the same predicament as you would not using any sun protection. Burning, peeling and required sun avoidance are all consequences of tanning too long, too fast.
DO increase your tanning times gradually. Let your skin adjust.
DON'T overdo it. Do not get caught up in the idea that you must tan until you reach your desired color.
DO remember that your color will continue to darken for a few hours after you are finished tanning. So while you may not reach your intended color immediately after your tanning session, give it a little time.
DON'T forget to apply lotion. A few wrongly believe that by skipping the lotion their tan is intensified. Not only is this wrong, it is in fact harmful for the skin.
DO use lotions that will not only increase your tan, but will protect your skin as well. Do this by using products that contain hydrating ingredients and antioxidants.
DON'T purchase your tanning lotions from a dollar store or online and expect great results.
DO take your time and look at ingredients. When it comes to tanning lotions and products, they are not a one size fits all. Look for the ones that are going to be gentle while still providing the nourishing benefits that your skin needs.
